Tools and Hardware Reviews of Bare-Tool Makita BHR202Z 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless 7/8-Inch SDS-Plus Rotary Hammer (Tool Only, No Battery)Customer Review: Handy, Handy, Handy!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a GREAT portable tool.
I Frequently am having to drill into Masonry in commercial buildings. I use this tool very often, i can auger 1/4 inch holes through a foot of masonry while holding this
unit with one hand over my head.
I love the work light, and the ease of use of this tool. Take note that the battery holder does have a shock absorber foot built in, so at first glance it may look like poor engineering. It is designed to preserve the battery from shock loads from the tool, and it does this well.
This tool is not designed for repetative large diameter drilling. It is PERFECT For tapcons, and drilling the occasional hole through masonry. It will drill large diameter holes as well, but it will chew through batteries quickly. You could perhaps do 2 or 3 7/8" holes 8" deep before your will overheat/wear down the battery.
I tend to be able to drill about 10-15 large tapcon holes, and bore 2 holes for cabling (3/8") through walls before i have to swap the battery. When using this tool i recommend having a second battery on the charger ready to go, if you think you are going to do more work than i have described.
The portability is definitely worth the sacrifice of the cord.
Summary:
If you are drilling footings all day, get a corded MAKITA.
If you are moving around alot, and do light masonry work, or chipping / tile etc. This will be a fantastic addition to your Makita tool set.
